Slabworks of Montana is a member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) because of what they stand for. The LEED standard is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Available for virtually all building, community, and home project types, LEED provides a framework for creating healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings and homes. The LEED certification is globally recognized, and is a symbol of achievements in sustainability.
Slabworks of Montana has been a Member Since 2008
We have been members of the USGBC since 2008, and provided the counter tops for the Bozeman Public Library, which was the first LEED Certified Commercial Building in the area. The products that we fabricated and installed added to the project’s LEED Scorecard, due to their compliance with LEED Material & Resources standards.
Making Building Materials Better
The USGBC recently announced their LEED v4 which broadens the requirements for building materials. To paraphrase the USGBC:
“Usage: Within the Materials & Resources (MR) section, instead of saying a product is good or bad based on one attribute, e.g. recycled content, LEED enables project teams to have a more robust dialogue with manufacturers about optimizing around environmental, social and health impacts and better understand trade-offs. This category is designed to consider the entire life-cycle of the building. From extraction and manufacturing, to transport, operations, and maintenance, and eventually the end of life.”
“Transparency: Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and material ingredient reporting tools, like Health Product Declarations, provide architects and designers more information on the contents in products, and the manufacturing process. EPDs address how products are made, their material ingredients, and other tools provide information about who makes them. These three together address the triple bottom line and give architects a more complete set of information by which to select products.”
