We know granite looks exquisite inside your home in the form of a countertop. But what about using it as an accent on the exterior of your home, office or business?
The owners of Jewelry Studio wanted to make a statement with the exterior of their newly-built location in Bozeman’s Gateway Center. Since 1994, Jewelry Studio specializes in sophisticated, high-end designer jewelry collections and distinctive custom designed jewelry.
Their architect wanted to let Jewelry Studio customers know that they were about to have a first-class shopping experience. That’s why they chose Slabworks of Montana to provide and fabricate polished granite to accentuate the exterior of their building.
Typhoon Bordeaux is quarried from a bedrock quarry in Brazil. Over millions of years, water has penetrated deep into this stone through small cracks and fissures, causing the iron to oxidize. It is this process that produces the rich, vibrant gold tones that are visible in this stone.
The slabs used for the Jewelry Studio project were book-matched. Book-matching means the even-numbered slabs and the next slabs were cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. The slabs are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. During the polishing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone. The epoxy fills in any natural pits, cracks or fissures that may exist.
The exterior of Jewelry Studio is a excellent example of using granite outside of the kitchen. If you have any questions about exterior granite, the book-matching process or about using stone outside of your home contact us.
