Cottage Style Kitchen Elements

Jun 10, 2020 |
cottage style kitchen

Cottage style design is an aesthetic that has been around for ages. It’s all about eclectic simplicity and carefree living. Choosing a cottage style for your kitchen is a great way to bring calm to one of the busiest places in your home. If you’re a fan of these cozy yet breezy vibes keep reading to learn what to include in your cottage kitchen.

Soft Colors

A light, bright, and airy color palette is essential to create a cottage-style look. Start with a neutral base like white or ivory then choose other colors to go with it. Soft yellow, pale turquoise, or light khaki are traditional accents that lend to the eclectic feel that define the cottage style. If you’re not into mixing a lot of colors into your space you can certainly go with an all-white color palette, but be sure to play around with different shades, patterns, and shapes to keep it interesting.

Patterns and Textiles

Cottage style is all about embracing comfort. By incorporating patterns and fabric throughout the room is a great way to overcome the hodgepodge feeling that can sometimes come from this style. Floral patterns are traditional, but if that’s not your style going for a geometric print is just as good. Don’t forget about window treatments either. Even a sheer curtain to catch the light brings in that airy feeling that’s so important to this aesthetic.

Accessorize

Unlike other styles that prize sleek and clean interiors, the cottage style is all about looking lived in. Decorate your countertops with anything from personal collections to reclaimed, rustic items or coastal décor. Whatever you choose, be careful of how you display it. You want it to look lived in, not cluttered. Stick to odd-numbered groups of items and play around with arrangements of varying directions and heights.

Neutral Countertops

In most of these designs, we see the countertops are done in a contrasting neutral color. Soft greys, warm beige, or subtly patterned whites go well with this look. Whatever color you choose it should be slightly different from your cabinet color. Enough to stand out, but not so much that it steals the focus from other elements. A Farmhouse sink is a must as it creates a sense of simple, country living.
