Remodeling a kitchen is no small task. It can be a pretty big disruption in your life. We find that many people who are interesting in a remodel hold off because there never seems to be a good time to do it. Today we’re going to discuss some tips and tricks for scheduling your remodel and if there is a perfect time to get the job done.
Before You Start Your Remodel
To avoid dragging out projects timelines or costly mistakes, be sure to do some planning. It’s a good idea to bundle a number of projects at once so the disruption is less, but pay attention to the order of your scheduling. You can’t install countertops if the cabinetry isn’t done. If you put new floors in right away, they could get scuffed up when appliances are delivered. Make a list of everything you’d like to get done, research the order they need to be done in, and then get quotes for cost and lead time from various contractors. This takes a bit of thought and sometimes can feel like a brain teaser to figure out, but it’s all worth it when the project gets rolling.
Think About Your Own Schedule
Once your research is done, it’s time to think about your personal schedule. You don’t want your remodel to accidentally drag into the holidays. Summer break may not be the best time to have professionals coming through the house while the kids are off school. There’s no single best time for a remodel, but you should do your best to figure out what works best for you. Come up with a few ideal dates and ask your contractors ahead of time to see if you can make them work.
Is There A “Remodel Season”?
Since most of the work for a kitchen model is done indoors it’s not dependent on the weather. However, if you live here in Montana, the winters can be tough. If you have to leave windows or doors open and have workers coming in and out, the snow and cold could be a problem.
Drier seasons are going to be ideal, but it’s not essential. Fall is a very popular time to start remodeling because it’s easy to find a contractor and schedules are more flexible. It’s also when a lot of retailers are cleaning out their stocks before the new year. You might be able to get a deal. The downside is fall is a big holiday season, which can be inconvenient without a functional kitchen.
