Marble vs. Marble Lookalike

Blocks of marble at Henraux Quarry

Marble is a classic choice for countertops. It’s great for traditionally ornate styles, but its soft subtlety works for almost any design aesthetic. Thanks to modern fabrication techniques marble slabs are more affordable than ever, but some still opt for a less expensive marble lookalike instead. Let explore why this might be.

Marble has a premium texture that is incredible and each slab is unique. You can choose from a broad range of veining and colors to best fit your kitchen or bathroom. This is the upside to choosing a natural stone. However, there are a few drawbacks. Marble is porous in nature and may stain easily. It’s also softer than other options, meaning you will need to take a bit of care not to dent or scratch it. If you want that marble look but don’t want to worry about wear and tear then a marble look-alike might be best for you.

Granite as a Marble Lookalike

There are granite countertops that resemble marble, but because granite is an igneous rock it’s much more durable. It’s still porous, so you’ll have to seal it periodically to keep it looking great. The sealing process is simple though. Just wipe it down with the sealing solution every 6-12 months.

Engineered Stone with Marble Vibes

More commonly known as quartz, engineered stone is incredibly durable. It’s very dense and non-porous so no sealing is necessary. Companies like Cambria and Cosentino have made an art form of creating different marble lookalike colors. Get the look you want without any of the maintenance.
