Match Counters to Cabinets

Home EducationMatch Counters to Cabinets
Mar 9, 2022 |

When it comes to remodels, visualizing all of the options can be overwhelming. There are thousands of combinations of finishes, materials, and colors to choose from. How can you be sure that you’re properly matching your counters to your cabinets? The last thing you want is to spend all of that money just to find that your design clashes or can’t keep up with the times.

We’re here to help with a few simple steps to design your kitchen or bathroom like a pro.

Color Palette

The first place we like to start is to look at the overall color palette. We recommend keeping it simple. Choose three colors, one primary and two complimentary. You can always choose design elements later to bring in more accent colors. That way you can switch them out as needed without redoing those expensive counters and cabinets. Finding three complimenting neutrals will give you lots of decor options.

Choose A Countertop

We always recommend that homeowners start by choosing a countertop first. A Countertop really sets the tone for a space. If you’re interested in natural stone you’ll want to tour a show room to find the unique slab that speaks to you. Every slab is unique so it’s much easier to start hear and find cabinets to match than the other way around. Think about your budget, home life, and personal style. Take samples home and see them in the actual light of your kitchen or bathroom. When you’ve found the material that works for you, then move on to the next step.

Choose your Cabinets & Flooring

Now that you have your counters picked out, it’s time to find the perfect cabinets to pair with them. Look back at that color palette and figure out what needs to be brought in. Is your counter the primary color? if not, that means you’ll probably want to choose cabinetry that is. If the counters are the primary color then you’ll want the cabinets and flooring to complement them. Once you know the general color family that you’d like you can go ahead and start looking at styles. This is where you’ll really dig into your personal taste. Do you like a sleek modern look or more ornate traditional styles? Don’t forget about function either! There are countless options for drawers and shelving to make your life easier.

Accessories and Finishes

Now that you’ve got the big choices out of the way it’s time to look at the details. Looking to add a little spice to a neutral palette? Use bold colors or patterns on your walls and bring in bright decorative pieces. If you’re going for a specific theme or style, hardware can really help you get there. Have fun with this part and don’t overthink it. These elements can be changed up relatively easily so it’s okay to get a little outside your box.

Our team of experts is happy to show you countertops that match your cabinetry or other finishes, just reach out to set up a time to visit our showroom.
